Corporate Community Day Reception
Ambassador Herbold Remarks
November 7, 2007
Thank you all for being here today.
The AmCham Corporate Community Day was a great success this year. Approximately 900 volunteers and 30 companies and organizations participated …and this year it didn’t rain! Your efforts in reaching out to all corners of the community were truly amazing. I would also like to recognize the NGOs, the hospitals and hospices, children and adult care homes and the charitable organizations that participated. Thank you for all that you do to serve the community.
Corporate Community Day was only possible thanks to the strong leadership of AmCham Singapore, particularly Dom LaVigne, and the AmCham staff, who coordinated the 25 events. Congratulations on a job well done!
I also greatly appreciated the fact that several members of Singapore’s Parliament, including MPs Lee Bee Wah and Sam Tan Chin Siong, joined us in this team effort to serve the community.
This was my second year participating in the AmCham Corporate Community Day, and I had the opportunity to visit six of the events. This year I was fortunate to have my Deputy Chief of Mission, Dan Shields, visiting another five events, so we were able to double our input. We and other Embassy volunteers experienced the great work that all of you are doing - from helping underprivileged children, to caring for mentally disabled adults and children, to providing food and nourishment to those in need. You are demonstrating Corporate America’s commitment to a community that has welcomed you with open arms and you’re also fulfilling a vital community service need. You make us all proud.
It is now my honor and privilege to recognize each of the participating companies and organizations with the U.S. Embassy’s Corporate Citizenship Award.
