Remarks by Ambassador Patricia L. Herbold

Marsh & McLennan Center
September 25, 2007
Thank you, Ted.
It’s my pleasure to help kick off this seminar focusing on opportunities with Seattle and several other cities and counties in WA. As some of you may know, my home when I’m not in Singapore is in Washington State, and it’s been a strong interest of mine to get a group from Washington, like the Seattle TDA, to visit here and explore opportunities in Singapore.
Seattle is at the center of many new trends and great ideas that end up becoming major companies. You will hear from several experts on what Seattle has to offer: Ken Kirkpatrick from US Bank; and Bill Stafford of TDA.
You will learn what a fascinating and economically vibrant area Seattle is and why it is the leading city in the Pacific Northwest. There are other WA cities and counties represented in this business mission and they also have a compelling story to tell. For my part, I’m sure that listening to these presentations will conjure up fond memories.
I urge you to take this opportunity to meet with these TDA mission representatives. Afterwards, please feel free to contact Dan Thompson of the Commercial Service office at the embassy for any follow-up.
I’m so glad you’re here, and wish you success with this seminar.
Thank you for the opportunity to say a few words to you this morning.
