George Washington Ball
Remarks by Ambassador Patricia L. Herbold
February 25, 2006
Thank you, David, for that nice introduction. It is a pleasure to join you all this evening for the 73rd annual George Washington Ball.
I’d like to begin by thanking UPS, Interdean Interconex, Michelangelo’s Group, Brewerkz and Harry’s Bar, the generous sponsors who have helped make this evening possible.
To the American community and our friends here tonight, thank you for coming. The American Association promotes friendship and understanding between the American community and all other nationalities in Singapore. That’s also part of my job here as U.S. Ambassador, so I thank you all for your support. It’s terrific to see 600 people here to celebrate the birthday of the first American president, George Washington.
I had a lot of fun deciding which mask to select for this evening’s masked ball. But there’s more than just fun generated here tonight. As you know, the George Washington Ball supports a very worthy cause. For the second year in a row, the Ball is assisting the Children’s Cancer Foundation Medical Outreach Program. This local non-profit organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with cancer, and their families. This year, the American Association hopes to double the amount raised for the Children’s Cancer Foundation, a fantastic goal for a wonderful organization.
Thank you for your support of tonight’s event, and of the American community throughout the year. The American community here in Singapore has made Bob and me feel right at home very quickly, and it’s great to represent the community as Ambassador.
Thank you, and have a good evening.
