2007 US-Singapore Relations

Visit of American Expert on Copyright & Intellectual Property issues

July 5-6, 2007

The U.S. Embassy Singapore’s Economic/Political Office and the Office of Public Affairs combined to arrange a visit by U.S. Speaker Michael Schlesinger, Vice President and Associate General Counsel of the International Intellectual Property Alliance, Washington, D.C.  Schlesinger emphasized the importance of IPR protection and enforcement in several talks with IPR rights holders, government experts, students, academics and journalists.  He met with officials from the Ministry of Law and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, and with rights holders from the Business Software Alliance. He spoke about regional capacity building with the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law, and about IPR enforcement in the digital age with Junior College students at Temasek Junior College.
