Islamic Studies Programs in American Universities

On January 16^th and 17^th, the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) organized two eventful days of programming for U.S. Speaker Marcia Hermansen.  Professor Hermansen, from Loyola University in Chicago, conducted lively presentations on Muslims in America, emphasizing Sufi movements, for academic and community audiences in Singapore.  During a meeting with MUIS, and a presentation at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Dr. Hermansen shared her perspective on issues in the American Muslim community.  She noted that American and Singaporean Muslims face several of the same issues, such as rising divorce rates and the role of Islamic schools.  Prof Hermansen also participated in community events with SimplyIslam and Darul Arqam.  OPA also hosted a digital video conference with U.S. Embassy Bandar Seri Begawan for Prof Hermansen.
