Birth Abroad
ACS Appointment System FAQ
Why are you switching from a walk-in system to an appointment system?
Our main goal is to serve the public. We hope to decrease our clients’ wait times in the Embassy and to provide them with better service.
I requested an appointment for another consular service and got stuck on a dead webpage. What should I do?
As you saw, we are currently only accepting appointments for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. If you chose another service you were brought to a page with a calendar that did not contain any operable links. Please use your back button to return to the previous page and select an appointment to report a birth abroad.
Why are you currently requiring appointments for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad?
Consular Reports of Birth Abroad applications are among the most complicated and time-consuming cases we handle. These cases take time and care to adjudicate and also require the presence of the parents and child. By taking appointments for this service, we hope to decrease the time these clients must wait in our small waiting room and ensure that each case receives the care and attention it deserves. We will continue to evaluate an appointment system for other services. Please look for notification in our ACS Newsletter on our website. Your comments are also welcome at SingaporeACS@state.gov.
What if I didn’t make an appointment, can I still come in to report a birth?
We will only process Consular Reports of Birth Abroad through our appointment system.
Can I do another service while reporting a birth abroad?
Yes please tell our person at intake what other services you need. We will continue to evaluate an appointment system for other services. Please look for notification in our ACS Newsletter on our website.
When I arrive at the Consular Waiting Room do I need to take a queue number?
First, when you arrive to the Embassy please notify the guard staff that you are here for an appointment and show them your appointment letter. Currently you do not need to take a queue number when you arrive to the waiting room. Turn in your appointment letter to the ACS Cashier. She will then give you further instructions.
What should I do if I cannot keep my appointment?
Please be considerate of others by cancelling your appointment time when you know that you cannot keep that appointment. Please follow the directions on our website.
How long are wait times at the Embassy?
Your appointment time is the time we expect you to check in with the ACS Cashier. You will need to arrive at the U.S. Embassy before your appointment time in order to complete security screening and enter the building. Our staff must still do a large amount of data entry for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad applications. From entry into the Embassy until the application process is complete often takes at least one hour. We strive to provide your service to you on the day you wish but there may be times when due to emergencies or other demands we may have to ask the public to be flexible. We appreciate your patience.
Can I complete forms at the Embassy?
Your wait time will be much longer if your wait to complete the application forms at the Embassy. Instructions regarding forms and necessary documents are available on our website. Arriving to the Embassy prepared will help expedite the speed with which we can process your application.
I have a question that is not raised in the FAQ. What can I do?
Please send your question in the form of an e-mail to SingaporeACS@state.gov. We will reply to you as soon as we can and likely add it to our other FAQ. Thank you very much.
