Passport Application Procedure For Armed Forces Personnel
In order to obtain a U.S. passport you will be required to prove that you are an American citizen. A military I.D. card is not proof of American citizenship.
First-time Applicants: Please submit the following documentation
1. An Application Form (Print Application Form DS-11) for a U.S. Passport (brown form).
2. Proof of U.S. citizenship: All military personnel who acquired citizenship by birth in the U.S. should provide a certified birth certificate as evidence of U.S. citizenship. The birth certificate must include your given name and surname, date and place of birth, date the birth record was filed, and seal or other certification of the official custodian of such records. A service member born abroad must provide a previous passport, a Certificate of Citizenship, Certificate of Naturalization, a Consular Report of Birth, or other evidence of citizenship.
3. Proof of Identity: Submit items such as the following containing your signature and physical description or photograph: previous U.S. passport; driver’s license (not temporary or learner’s license); or government (Federal, State, municipal) identification card or pass. Temporary or altered documents are not acceptable.
4. Two Photographs: Submit two identical photographs taken within the last 6 months, 2" by 2" in size, with an image size from bottom of chin to top of head (including hair) of between 1" and 1 3/8". Photographs must be clear, front view, full face, taken in normal civilian attire without a hat or dark glasses and printed on thin paper with a plain white or off-white background. They may be black and white or color. Retouched photos, snapshots, most vending machine prints and magazine photographs are unacceptable.
5. Fees: The fee is US$100
payable in cash either in U.S. or equivalent Singapore dollars. Travelers’ checks are accepted however personal checks and credit/debit cards are not.
Please note: In an emergency, a passport limited to one year may be issued to a member of the Armed Forces born in the U.S. based on a photocopy of a commission certificate or oath of office or on a military identification card in situations in which the applicant cannot reasonably be expected to obtain a birth certificate in time to meet his or her travel plans. Documentation from the service member’s commanding officer supporting the urgency must be submitted with the application.
If you want to renew a previous passport, inquire about eligibility to use Form DS-82 (see "Passport Services"). Please call the American Citizen Services Office (6476-9038/9251) for information regarding the application procedure for official or diplomatic passports.
Passport issuance takes ten days to two weeks.
