Singapore Hosts American Filmmaker
Andrea Richards
U.S. Filmmaker
On March 12th and 13th, 2007, the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) sponsored the travel of Los-Angeles based filmmaker Andrea Richards to Singapore to participate in a local independent documentary film festival with the Substation, the local alternative theatre group. OPA also took advantage of her presence to arrange programs with American Connections partner the Esplanade Library and prospective AC partner LaSalle College of the Arts. At her presentation at the Esplanade Library, the local performing arts library, Andrea discussed the writing of her book Girl Director and answered questions from aspiring filmmakers in the audience. Locally well-known filmmakers, faculty, and students attended her film screening and lecture at LaSalle College of the Arts, and the host of the program, the director of LaSalle's film school, praised the opportunity to screen several rare films for the Singaporean students, who might not otherwise be exposed to such hard to obtain American works.
