AMBASSADOR HERBOLD TALKS TO 1000 SECONDARY STUDENTS

July 18, 2007

U.S. Ambassador to Singapore Patricia Herbold spoke to more than 1000 secondary students at elite Raffles Institution on July 18 as part of the school’s Ambassadors Series.  The Ambassador’s speech included an overview of the United States’ foreign and economic policies, then touched on our engagement in Asia, our bilateral relations with Singapore, U.S. trade and security policies, and global issues such as climate change and economic transitions in America.  She explained that the United States is a Pacific nation, so being an active partner in Asia is both natural for us and in our national interest.  The Ambassador emphasized that our engagement in the region also pays dividends for Asia.  The Ambassador was greeted with a standing ovation, and her well-received remarks sparked a lively question and answer session.
