Mr. Jerry Jasinowski, President of The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) of the United States of America, and Mr. Lew Syn Pau, President of the Singapore Manufacturers' Federation (SMa) of Singapore, signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) on September 9, 2004 at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Singapore and American VIPs, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports; Senior Minister of State For Trade and Industry and U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Franklin Lavin.
Mr. Jasinowski said that it is the first MOU that NAM has signed with an Asian country, and he was confident that the MOU would result in increased business for both NAM and SMa members. The NAM is the largest industry trade group in United States with 14,000 member companies and 350 member associations across all industrial sectors. The SMa is Singapore’s national association of manufacturers. It was founded in 1932 and has 2500 members. The MOU calls for exchange of information, trade missions, and joint efforts to further trade liberalization.
