American Connection Established at Top Singaporean Junior College |
The American Embassy in Singapore donated a special collection of 250 books about the United States on August 18 to Temasek Junior College (TJC). Working closely with senior officials at the National Library Board and TJC’s head librarian, the embassy's Information Resource Center Director, Aruna Datta, assembled an outstanding collection of books which will tell America’s story to TJC students, and help establish a special American connection between the embassy and the school. During the presentation ceremony, an embassy official described the collection as a virtual port-of-entry to U.S. institutions, society and culture. Mrs. Lim Lai Cheng, Temasek Junior College's principal, encouraged her university-bound students to make good use of the American Connection’s many study-in-the-USA academic guides, test manuals and university handbooks. Temasek Junior College’s “American Connection” is the first of a dozen that will be set-up around the country in collaboration with the National Library Board. Plans call for the schools and civic centers where the connections are located to serve as venues for speaker and other outreach programs, as well.
