Fulbrighters Gather in Singapore
August 14, 2003
Fulbrighters past, present and future -- Singaporean, American and Ukrainian -- gathered at the U.S. Charge's residence for a reception and dinner August 14. Centered around the Singaporean alumni's annual general meeting, the evening was a welcomed opportunity for Fulbrighters of all stripes to discuss their programs, exchange memories, and advise incoming American and outgoing Singaporean Fulbright students of what to expect and do. Notables? The oldest Fulbrighter present went on his UC-Berkley program in 1968; the Ukrainian Ambassador was a two timer (once as a Soviet scholar, then as a Ukrainian); the Alumni Association's Chairman went to the U.S. first as a Fulbright student and years later as a scholar.
Result: Listening to their unsolicited testimonials about the program, and the changes great and small they experienced as a result of being a Fulbrighter, made one proud to be an American. These impressive and successful professionals affirm the positive impact and long term importance of our exchange programs.
