The U.S. Air Force Band Wows Young Singaporeans

July 6, 2004

As part of a special community outreach effort in connection with its July 4 celebrations, the U.S. Embassy worked closely with the National Library Board to organize a performance by an American band at one of Singapore's newest and largest libraries. What was attractive about the venue where the US Air Force’s “Pacific Trends” band performed, the Jurong Regional Library, is its special focus on youth programs and its unique “Teens Zone” -- a library area that was inspired by teens, created by teens and is run by teens. The Pacific Trends, on a USAF goodwill tour of Singapore, gave an impressive performance of hit songs, delivering top-quality Rock & Roll, R&B, and Country Music to more than 100 hooting and clapping young Singaporeans who were treated to a taste of American popular culture. The Pacific Trends also performed at the Braddell Heights Community Club bazaar, for an older, but no less enthusiastic audience.
