African American History: A Talk at Temasek Junior College

February 15, 2006

More than 250 Temasek Junior College students learned about African American History in a special Embassy speaker program celebrating Black History Month. Participants heard about the struggle of African Americans to become full citizens, and the many contributions of African Americans to U.S. and world history. This Black History Month event, part of the Embassy outreach to younger Singaporean audiences, illuminated America's diversity for Singaporean students familiar with the challenges and opportunities in their own multi-ethnic society. The presentation also touched upon the U.S. government's effort to eradicate modern day slavery through our anti-trafficking laws and vigilance.
